Lakeland, Florida is a city located in Polk county just outside of Tampa, on interstate 4 right between Orlando and Tampa which makes it so accessible. It has a population of 100, 710 according to the 2013 United States Census bureau estimates, and it is a great place to raise kids. Most of the population in Lakeland is between 16-30 years due to the number of colleges and universities in the city. Lakeland was originally home to hundreds of North American tribes and now is home to many different people from mixed races and backgrounds who live together in harmony and community cooperation. Citrus growing and phosphate mining are some of the biggest backers of the Lakeland economy, even though they do not represent the basis of Lakeland like before.

Culture of the city

Despite its relatively small size being only 133kmsq, Lakeland still maintains a deep culture and history. It possesses several historical sites such as the Dixieland Historic district, the Lake Hunter Terrace Historic District and the South Lake Morton Historic District. The city is famous for the Polk Museum of art and regularly plays host to lots of history buffs and art lovers.

Lakeland is also the venue for many events which include the annual Sun ‘n FUN Fly-in where flight enthusiasts throng in to watch daring pilots perform incredible feats in the air, air races, mock dogfights etc. and swap stories, lore, take dozens of pictures and generally have fun in the Florida sun.

Lakeland has a place for everyone. Even if you are not an art enthusiast or Junker buff, there are still many ways to have fun in the Florida MSA biggest city. There is a promenade which has stood for decades, an amphitheater, lots of pedestrian walkways with lots of sights along the way. The Hollis Garden is one of those sights found along the walkway and it is a breathtaking garden with over 10,000 flowers and plants, some of which are indigenous to Florida. Sports lovers will naturally drift to the fully-equipped Joker Marchant Stadium as Lake Hollings will call to those who hold nature dear at heart.

History comes alive in the city of Lakeland in Florida.

Nestled in a corner of downtown Lakeland is the Historic and Antiques district where antique dealers have made their domain. Visit and leave with a touch of the past as you walk through squares surrounded by antique shops, art galleries and specialty shops. Small museums, historic pubs, and restaurants all with a story to tell beckon invitingly.

Lakeland is centre of Education in the Lakeland-Winter Haven Florida MSA.

Lakeland is the venue of schools like Southeastern University, Florida Polytechnic University, Traviss Career Center, Florida Technical College, Florida Southern college and so many more. There is a lot of fun to be had in Lakeland, but you can be sure that education and academics is not far behind.
