Watermelon 5K

Come down to Winter Park, Florida to celebrate the Watermelon 5K! It’s a great way to celebrate Independence Day! Monday, July 4th, 2016, get ready for a full day of fun with the Watermelon 5K. The day begins at 6:45 with the Team Challenge Winner Announcement and has a morning full of activities including a Watermelon Eating Contest!

The day starts with the Team Challenge where the team with the most participants will have a $500 donation made on their behalf to a local 501(c)(3) organization that supports military service. Teams are to show your support of our local military with charitable examples including active, reserve, veterans, wounded service personnel, military families or ROTC organizations. The winners will be announced on race day at 6:45 am.

Following the Team Challenge is the 5K. Participants will enjoy their walk/run through Winter Park. Beginning on Park Avenue, the 3.1 mile course runs through the best streets of Winter Park. Stick around for the Watermelon Eating Contest starting at 8:00 am, where four men and four women are choses to participate. The top male and female winners will receive festive watermelon merchandise. Then you won’t want to miss the Free Kids’ Run at 8:15! All registered 5K participants will receive a short sleeved, unisex t-shirt—be sure to wear yours on race day in the spirit of the holiday!

It is noted that bicycles, roller skates, in-line skates and dogs are prohibited from the race course. The use of headphones is highly discouraged. Stroller/jogger operators start behind the designated stroller signage and may not walk/jog no faster than 15 miles per minute—a safe operating speed. The Track Shack’s mission is keeping Central Florida fit, and while walkers are encouraged to participate in all Track Shack races, the municipalities require that roadways are clear of participants and opened as soon as the race is complete. There is a maximum pace of 15 miles per mile set and the pace needs to be maintained, otherwise race officials will ask you to move to the sidewalk to reopen the roadways

Don’t waste time to book yourself to this event. If you have any questions or would like more information about this race, don’t hesitate to contact Track Shack at contact 407.896.1160 or info@trackshack.com.
