Barberville Pioneer Settlement

Located in Barberville, Florida, you won’t want to miss out on a visit to the Barberville Pioneer Settlement, as it is truly a unique experience for all. With a historical village nestled within a corner of western Volusia County. You can choose from self-guided tours or each visitor or group can be provided with a guided tour of the structures within the expansive campus. The Barberville Pioneer Settlement illustrates life in rural Florida of how life was in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.


You can come visit the Barberville Pioneer Settlement Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00am to 4:00pm or if you have a large group, it is open on Mondays to accommodate them. Beginning November 15th, 2015, the Barberville Pioneer Settlement will be open Sundays from 11am to 3pm. The Barberville Pioneer Settlement is closed for all holidays. It is asked that you plan to arrive for your visit to the Barberville Pioneer Settlement no later than 2:00pm in order to give yourself plenty of time to explore the entire campus. Throughout the Barberville Pioneer Settlement, there is a plethora of shade trees, benches and picnic tables.


Admission prices for self-guided tours are $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 6-12, and free for children under 5 and current Settlement members. For guided tours, a reservation and a minimum of $40.00 is required. Prices for the guided tour are $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12, and free for children under 5.


The Barberville Pioneer Settlement was brought about by a group of Volusia County teachers who had a passion for the arts back in 1976. The teachers who founded the Pioneer Settlement for the Creative Arts, Inc., as a not for profit organization include: Lura Bell, Anne Johnson, Dorothy Felton, Shirley Keppel, Mary McClancy, Marion Hillabold, Dorothy Johnson and Viola Pierson. Over the years, the program has adapted to meet the growing need for FCAT-baed learning benchmarks. It is with pride that the Barberville Pioneer Settlement lives by their mission statement: To educate and entrust the public and future generations with the knowledge of the pioneer lifestyle of our forefathers, through hands on experience, folk life demonstrations, preservation and historical exhibits.
